One of the world's great travel destinations, Morocco offers stunning variety, from the white beaches of the Atlantic Coast to the snowy High Atlas Mountains and the palm oases perched on the edge of the Sahara. This Custom Trip, whose name is a bow to the welcoming gates that grace so many Moroccan towns, has been handcrafted to reveal our favorite spots and showcase the unique history, arts, and food of this part of the world.
On this sample itinerary (which we'll adjust endlessly to match your specific interests, preferences, and time frame), you begin in Rabat, Morocco’s political capital with white facades, palm-lined boulevards, and reminders of Morocco’s French colonial past. Then there's time to explore medieval Fès, adorned with thin minarets and known for its labyrinthine souk (market), and fabled Marrackech, home to the wildly animated main square, the Djemaa el Fna.
You savor breathtaking panoramas and romantic casbahs in the High Atlas Mountains before reaching the sand dunes of Merzouga, where you overnight in simply appointed but comfortable Bedouin-style tents with beds, plenty of blankets, and lanterns (and, amazingly, a flush toilet). Dinner under desert stars, the songs of local musicians, and a great sense of solitude have made this camp a deeply memorable highlight for our Morocco travelers.
Throughout, your private guide weaves stories of Morocco’s history and cultural traditions, and is a valuable friend in opening opportunities to meet local people and learn firsthand about the country’s rich heritage.
