Throne Room of Mountain Gods

Did you know that 5 of the 14 highest independent peaks (aka the Eight-thousanders) are found in Pakistan? And that 4 of them can be seen while standing at Concordia, an incredible spot created by the coming together of the Baltoro Glacier and Godwin-Austen Glacier and nicknamed “Throne Room of Mountain Gods”? And this is exactly where legendary GeoEx guide, Vassi Koutsaftis, took this ‘moon rising over Concordia’ picture on our Trek to K2 & Broad Peak trip in July 2018.

Pakistan’s Hunza Valley Trip

From our Meet Your Leader series: British-Born Raconteur-Explorer Bill Jones has led tours in more than 180 countries over the past 40 years. He was one of the first Westerners to travel the Karakoram Highway from Pakistan to Kashgar. Alicia M. writes, “Bill was everything a trip leader should be: he is very knowledgeable, experienced, caring, informative, fun, and more.” So why not challenge your horizons? Bill Jones leads our Pakistan’s Hunza Valley trek in June 2018.

Anthony Bourdain 49th Day Prayer Butter Lamp Ceremony

🙏Lighting the Path Forward🙏 We received some video of the 49th day prayer butter lamp ceremony honoring Anthony Bourdain at the Dodeydrak sacred monastery in Bhutan, where 180 monks are currently in residence. Today, July 27th marks the 49th day of Bourdain’s passing, which is a time of great significance in Buddhism. Our very special friends at @yangpheladventuretravel, including ten guides, hiked over five hours roundtrip to make this honoring for Bourdain happen. This ceremony falls on three auspicious occasions: the full moon, the beginning of the Yarney, and the lunar eclipse. Read the full story on what’s happening and why: bit.ly/geoexbourdain “We hope that you might take a moment on the 27th [today] to stop and reflect on Anthony’s life and his incredible contribution to our world. Send him your thoughts and prayers and join us in lighting a candle to light his path forward.” – Brent Olson, the GeoEx staff, and our colleagues in Bhutan . . . #geoex #anthonybourdain #butterlamp #offering #bhutan #buddhism #love #light #honoring
