The GeoEx Story

Pioneering Cultural Expeditions Since 1982

Every company has an origin story. Ours begins with a single trek, and a belief that travel, when done with care, can shape how we see the world and our place in it. What follows isn’t just history. It’s the foundation of how we’ve traveled ever since—and why that still matters today.

An Adventure Company is Born

On the remote North Face of Everest, a group of American trekkers huddle for warmth—the first ever allowed into this part of the Tibetan backcountry. In a tent at 16,500 feet, Geographic Expeditions (formerly InnerAsia) is born. That trailblazing journey sparked a legacy of exploration still unfolding today.

Charting New Paths in Global Exploration

That first expedition led to many more: the first commercial trips to far western China, South Georgia Island, Kilimanjaro’s Western Breach, and new corners of Patagonia. With every bold step, what began as a small, ambitious venture evolved into one of the most respected, trusted travel companies on the planet, quietly transforming how people see the world and their place within it.

Our Ethos of Exploration

Today, we continue to chart new territory, crafting journeys to places few others go, with the same spirit of curiosity and respect that started it all. Our trips are designed to reveal the beauty and complexity of the world, foster meaningful connections, and leave a lasting impact.

Our Legacy of Firsts in Adventure Travel

These firsts didn't just expand our map, they reshaped the essence of who we are.
