GeoEx’s Wanderlust Honored in Prestigious SATW Travel Journalism Awards

November 15th, 2019

Geographic Expeditions (GeoEx) is proud to announce that two stories published on its Wanderlust blog have been honored with awards in the 2019 Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition.

SATW’s Lowell Thomas Competition is widely recognized as the premier travel journalism competition in North America. This year’s contest attracted 1,335 entries and was judged by the journalism faculty at the University of Missouri. In addition to GeoEx’s Wanderlust, other multiple-award winning publications included Outside, National Geographic Traveler, Afar, and the New York Times.

Edited by veteran travel writer and editor Don George, Wanderlust features articles and essays by literary luminaries such as Pico Iyer, Jan Morris, Tim Cahill, and Isabel Allende, as well as work by up-and-coming literary stars and GeoEx’s own world-exploring staffers.

“We’re thrilled that Wanderlust has been recognized by SATW for the second year in a row,” said GeoEx Chief Executive Officer Jean-Paul Tennant. “Many travel companies have blogs, but we think Wanderlust stands out amongst the crowd. The creativity and literary quality of the articles Don and his extended team have been able to pull together for Wanderlust is impressive. We wanted our blog to hit the same high standards that we aspire to for each and every GeoEx trip. Thanks to Don, we think we have done that.”

The two Wanderlust stories that were singled out as winners in the 2019 SATW Competition were:

Best Article on Foreign Travel: Anne Sigmon, “Hemingway, Cuba & Me”

Best Cultural Tourism Article: Andrew Van Wey, “Keyboard Dreams: Observing a Virtual Rite of Passage in Korea”

Wanderlust Editor in Chief Don George is an award-winning travel writer with his own collection of stories, The Way of Wanderlust. He also wrote the bestselling Lonely Planet Guide to Travel Writing and has edited numerous travel anthologies.

More literary journeys for the discerning traveler can be found on GeoEx’s Wanderlust blog.
