The highest mountain in the world after Everest, K2 has dared and dazzled mountaineers since its "discovery" in 1856. Located deep in the Karakoram Range on the China-Pakistan border, this majestic colossus rises to 28,251 feet above sea level. Nearby, legendary Broad Peak skyrockets to 26,414 feet. An expedition to their base camps winds across streams and meadows and past rock and ice to reveal some of the most spectacular alpine scenery on the planet. The trip leader, Vassi Koutsaftis, who has trekked to K2 and Snow Lake in Pakistan at least six times and has been to Everest's Kangshung Face 11 times, describes this expedition as the most dramatic and stunning of all.
