Safari Trip Options: Which Adventure is Right For You?

Choosing the Right Safari

Our Expertise, Your Safari

If you’re like us, simply mentioning the word “safari” fills you with an excited jolt and you’re instantly schoonering in Land Rovers through East Africa’s oceanic grassland, spotting big cats on rock island. But turning this reverie into reality can be less than romantic. “Planning a safari—that is right for you—is surprisingly complicated,” explains Starla Estrada, our chief Africa champion. From camps, lodges, and countries, to guides, activities, flights, and services, the safari trip options seem about as numerous as the species in the Serengeti. Luckily, GeoEx’s team of safari experts is here to make sense of them, adeptly selecting and orchestrating the combination that aligns with your style, interests, and preferences.

What Interests You?

Because we understand that no one size fits all, we’ve skillfully crafted a hugely varied collection of superb safaris, both for scheduled group trips and customized, private journeys. We know how (and love) to venture off the tourist treadmill into exclusive, carefully chosen nature preserves whose lodges and camps are charming, uncrowded, and comfortable. We relish getting you close up to wildlife and introducing you to the best guides on the continent. And we enjoy lining up authentic cultural encounters and trip extensions to round out your experience. We make sure safariing never gets old, whether it’s your 1st or 50th trip. Some options include:

  • Game drives
  • Bush walks
  • Camping safaris
  • Family safaris
  • Bird-watching
  • Gorilla/primate tracking
  • Horseback riding
  • Wildlife viewing by boat
  • Cultural interactions
  • Hot-air balloon excursions
  • Helicopter outings
  • Mobile safaris
  • Meetings with conservation experts
  • Beach/island extensions

“What an extraordinary adventure you planned for us! All the natural wonders of Africa were enhanced by beautiful and interesting accommodations, seamless travel from camp to camp, and unique touches that can only be arranged by a group with the expertise, experience, and connections of GeoEx.”–Harriet E.

What Time of Year to Go

Animals are easier to spot in the dry months: grasses are low and waterholes offer vital refreshment. But the green season is also splendid: landscapes are lush, wildflowers bloom, and baby animals frolic (enticing predators). For the most heart-pounding moments of the Great Migration, travel from June to September.

More than a Place to Sleep

Safari lodging varies widely in style; we’re here to figure out which suits you best. We’ve handpicked delightfully casual, permanent camps featuring spacious, impressively appointed tents (with real beds and en-suite bathrooms). The lodges we’ve chosen are unassumingly luxurious, with more indulgent amenities, three-course sit-down dinners, and additional special touches.

Your camp or lodge is intrinsically linked to your safari experience. It determines your safari guides, game drive vehicles, location, level of service, proximity to other camps, and the company that you keep. We choose remote, private, gorgeous conservancies and reserves with top-notch staff so you get the most out of your time in the bush and only have to share it with a select few.

“This was planned as the trip of a lifetime, and it was. It greatly exceeded expectations, and we stayed in some of the best hotels and camps we have ever experienced. Extraordinary!” – Jim L.
