New Zealand’s reputation among eager travelers is about as sterling as reputations get. This customizable journey introduces you to the North Island’s wealth of wonders—scenic, culinary, and cultural.

After overnighting in Auckland, take a short flight to Napier, peaceful, laid-back, and beautiful. Enjoy an Art Deco architecture tour before continuing to Tongariro National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site both for its spectacular volcanic scenery and its cultural importance to the Maori people.

Next you make the intensely rewarding Tongariro Alpine Crossing—rich in emerald lakes, live lava, and epic views. Arriving in the thermal wonderland of Rotorua, you can hike with a local chef, gathering herbs for tonight's feast. Then fly north to the fetching Bay of Islands, one of the world’s premier deep-sea fishing centers, to spend a day with Don and Marilyn Logan aboard their winsome yacht, weaving in and out of coves, visiting charming beaches, and relishing freshly caught crayfish and scallops.

Please note: This lovely trip combines beautifully with our customizable Mountains & Fiords of the South Island journey.
