Oman is a bastion of peace and desert beauty, unexpectedly soaring mountains and spotless beaches. We’ve designed this customizable itinerary to unveil the country's unforeseen mysteries. Led by a knowledgeable guide, you’ll start in Muscat, diving into the history of the sultanate at the Bait Adam Museum (Bait al Zubair) and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, and exploring one of the region’s best fish markets. Then it's southward to the Arabian Sea, passing through the old port town of Sur, strolling through date plantations, and lingering on the beaches of Ras al Jinz, the eastern-most tip of the country, watching sea turtles at work.
Next you head inland to more arid landscapes. Dip into wadis, take an off-road adventure in the walloping dunes of the Wahiba Sands, visit with Bedouins, and overnight at a desert camp. Before returning to Muscat, there are excursions to the exhilarating Sinaw souk, the lively Nizwa cattle market, the Wadi Ghul gorge, Jabreen Castle, and the more languid, luscious villages of Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain).
Have more time? We’re happy to extend your journey north to the Musandam Peninsula or south to Salalah, a tropical paradise whose plantations and coconut-fringed beaches offer a flavor of Zanzibar in the heart of the Arabian desert.
