In Vietnam’s north lies Ha Giang Province, a mountainous land of deep and undisturbed beauty. With its uniquely preserved tribal culture, this region is far from the country’s tourist track. Our 10-day hiking journey unveils the kind of spectacularly beautiful landscapes and traditional ways of life that make Vietnam such a marvelous destination.
Your adventure begins with a drive north from Hanoi to Ha Giang, where you hike leisurely in emerald hills, wander past sparkling streams and make your way through timeless villages. Your cultural immersion deepens with a two-night homestay in the village of Tay. Then you turn west to Lao Cai Province’s Sapa district and delve into the jumping Sin Cheng market, bursting with goods made or grown by ethnic minorities. Leaving the action behind, relax with a couple of days at the serene Topas Ecolodge, a hostelry of great character set atop a vibrantly green hill, looking down steeply at the Sapa Valley. You return by train to Hanoi to catch your homeward flight, knowing that relatively few travelers have experienced this gorgeous pocket of the planet.
