“This is Burma, and it will be quite unlike any land you know about,” wrote Britain's Rudyard Kipling. With its ancient temples and stunning landscapes only recently accessible to western eyes, the author wasn't kidding. On this 10-day journey you have an opportunity to explore the many high points of this long-preserved land.

In Yangon, discover unique fin-de-siecle architecture and the sacred Shwedagon Temple, which the Raj's laureate called “a golden mystery...a beautiful winking wonder that blazed in the sun.” Moving on to Bagan, visit the astonishing Plain of Temples, a stunning array of more than 2000 temples, monasteries, and pagodas built before the 13th century. Embark on a deluxe cruise along the ever-shifting waters of the Irrawaddy, Myanmar’s largest river, taking in riverside villages and temples. Explore exquisite Mandalay, where silk weaving, teak carving, and gold and silver work abound. Flying north to the Shan Hills in the country’s eastern corner, get to know gorgeous Inle Lake, famous for floating gardens, and local hill tribes, whose homelands stretch across the heart of Southeast Asia. Through it all, you come to understand and appreciate Kipling's enchantment with this mysterious land, and may even be inspired to write some poetry of your own.
