Our friend Edward Norton designed this unique journey specially for GeoEx travelers to share his perfect safari experience, one that blends the romance of the classic African safari with authentic encounters with Maasai culture and a thought-provoking exposure to cutting-edge conservation efforts in one of the world’s greatest wild places. In Edward’s words: “We should give people a chance at an adventure that is something altogether different and more satisfying than the typical tourist experience in Kenya.” (Read Edward's letter of invitation.)

In addition to his work as an actor and as the United Nations Ambassador for Biodiversity, Edward has worked in Kenya for more than a decade as one of the principal architects of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT), a globally recognized partnership between professional conservationists and Maasai leaders that works to protect the legendary Amboseli-Tsavo ecosystem while ensuring that the local Maasai communities thrive economically. Edward learned about the MWCT on his first trip to Kenya and Tanzania—one with GeoEx, in fact—about 13 years ago. Your safari will contribute to this outstanding project.

After overnighting at a delightful wilderness park in Nairobi, you’ll fly to vast, pristine Maasai tribal lands in the Chyulu Hills (Hemingway’s Green Hills of Africa) at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Hosted at Campi ya Kanzi (an award-winning eco-lodge that directly supports the MWCT) and guided by MWCT staff, you’ll explore the area’s captivating wildlife, landscapes, and people, and learn about conservation successes and challenges. Before returning to Nairobi to meet orphaned baby elephants, you’ll fly west to a wonderfully remote tented camp in the Masai Mara, one of the world’s most thrilling game parks, to spend several days four-wheel-driving and walking through the bush, spotting exotic critters with the help of expert trackers.
