Myanmar is a superb tapestry of distinct tribes and ethnicities, woven together to form a country of exquisite cultural richness. You'll get to know many of its enchanting threads on your personalized journey, sharing in unique traditions and customs that few Westerners ever experience.

After overnighting in Yangon, you fly to the country's remote northernmost province, Kachin, and the marvelous village of Putao to enjoy a wealth of activities and savor unbelievable views of the snowcapped Himalayas. Then wing your way to Mandalay and on to Kengtung in the largely uncharted eastern Shan State. On a series of day hikes, take in sublime hilly scenery and spend time in Akha villages, famous for their women's elaborate headdresses, and Ann settlements, whose inhabitants believe that mountains and rivers have souls. The final leg of your adventure takes you to the coast on the Bay of Bengal, where you get to know the proud Arakanese culture, flavored by Aryans, Mongols, Buddhists, and Muslims. You boat on jungly rivers, exploring vine-covered Buddhist temples and crumbling lost cities in one of Asia's least known regions, and you visit with the mysterious Chin people, known for their florid facial tattoos.
