Falling in Love with Asia: A Conversation with Pico Iyer

By Don George | March 3, 2015

Last month I had the honor and privilege to host a conversation with Pico Iyer, the extraordinarily thoughtful, eloquent, and peripatetic writer who is based in Japan but seems to spend most of his time crisscrossing the globe. Indeed, that was one of the subjects of our conversation, how he longs wistfully to spend a day simply sitting at his desk, moving nowhere, immersed in stillness and silence. Our dialogue ranged widely, from how we had both fallen in love with Japan, to the reasons why we travel, to the most stimulating places on the globe—“The top three places to visit are Cuba, Iran, and Vietnam,” said Pico. For all of you who weren’t able to attend this exhilarating and thought-provoking conversation—and for those of you who were and would like to relive it again—see the video of the event below. May it inspire your wanderlust!
