Vietnam lures us with unstinting beauty, amiable people, and a culture that has bent to many winds, yet has remained deeply rooted.

We make our way slowly up the country’s arc, dallying in Saigon’s historic sites, temples, and markets, eating in its latest and best restaurants, sipping coffee in its sidewalk cafés, and strolling its bubbling streets. We’ll explore the Mekong Delta, then fly north to the South China Sea beaches and magnificently preserved old port of Hoi An, a graceful, engaging backwater complete with hump-backed bridges and shops bursting with silks, paintings, embroidered goods, and lacquerware. We drive a little farther north to Hue and wing our way to Hanoi and an overnight cruise among the magic limestone towers and crags of Halong Bay before flying home.

Days 1 & 2: USA to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) • Days 3 & 4: Ho Chi Minh City • Day 5: drive to the Mekong Delta • Day 6: return to Ho Chi Minh City, fly to Danang, and drive to Hoi An • Day 7: Hoi An • Day 8: to Hue • Day 9: Hue • Day 10: to Hanoi • Day 11: Hanoi • Day 12: to Halong Bay • Day 13: back to Hanoi • Day 14: depart for USA or more Southeast Asia exploration.
