Arranged as a side trip from Mandalay, this extension takes you to northern Shan State, a mountainous area of dramatic gorges and beautiful scenery. You’ll visit the former British hill station of Maymyo, known now by its Burmese name of Pyin Oo Lwin. You’ll continue to the town of Hsipaw with a history going back 2000 years.

Day 1: Mandalay to Maymyo, Botanical Garden, Maymyo market • Day 2: drive through Shan mountains to Hsipaw • Day 3: hiking and boating in Hsipaw • Day 4: Hsipaw market and Shan Palace, return to Mandalay.
