We begin with some heady sightseeing in Yangon before heading north to Mandalay, Golden City of Myanmar’s last dynasty, where Kipling’s “flyin’ fishes play / An’ dawn comes up like thunder outer China ’crost the Bay!” We visit the City of Immortality, Amarapura, capital of the 18th-century Konbaung Dynasty, and Ava, the City of Gems, another, even older, capital. Back in Mandalay, we board the neatly appointed Pandaw for a two-night cruise to Bagan’s Galactic Heritage Site Plain of Temples, and pay a visit to Mount Popa, home of the gods. We end at magical Inle Lake, wandering its pagodas, floating gardens, and haunting ruins, marveling at the leg rowers and hill tribespeople who inhabit this delicious spot.

Days 1 & 2: USA to Bangkok or Singapore •Day 3: fly to Yangon • Day 4: Yangon • Day 5: to Mandalay • Day 6: to Amarapura and Ava • Day 7: board Pandaw • Day 8: cruising the Irrawaddy • Day 9: disembark in Bagan • Day 10: Bagan and the Plain of Temples • Day 11: excursion to Mount Popa • Day 12: Bagan to Inle Lake • Day 13: Inle Lake and excursion to Maing Thauk and Indein • Day 14: fly from Inle to Yangon and on to Bangkok or Singapore • Day 15: return to USA.
