Kenya contains within itself the very length and breadth of Africa’s delights. Its landscapes range from parched savannah and desert in the north to lush, inspiring hills in the center and south. (The cloud-forested Chyulu are Hemingway’s Green Hills of Africa, and Karen Blixen wrote Out of Africa about her life in the Ngong Hills.) This variety has created habitat for an array of wildlife that is simply astounding.
The threat of civil unrest in Kenya has receded significantly after a power-sharing agreement was signed on February 28; Parliament ratified it on March 18; and it has been widely accepted throughout Kenya. Our Kenyan partners report stable conditions in the field and the U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Michael E. Ranneberger, recently issued an open letter to American travelers and businesspeople on his assessment of the travel conditions.
