Responsible Travel

Walking the Talk
Geographic Expeditions is committed to preserving the delicate Galapagos ecosystem. We’re the first to acknowledge that bringing travelers to this special place has local and global environmental and cultural impacts. However, we fervently believe our voyages play a vital role in creating sustainable tourism, which in turn creates an incentive to protect the resource. Our more-than-quarter-of-a-century of experience has taught us that, when it is intelligently done, travel is a net plus for the visitor and the visited alike.
La Pinta was designed from the hull-up to incorporate the highest environmental design standards and minimum impact practices. Some examples of La Pinta’s responsible travel practices, large and small:
- La Pinta meets or exceeds all international certifications, including ISO 9000 and 14000
- State-of-the-art engines that emit the lowest levels of CO2 and noise
- Four stroke outboard engines for the pangas (zodiacs)
- On-board desalinization plant that enables the vessel to avoid transporting freshwater from another land-based source
- On-board waste treatment facilities and recycling of inorganic and organic waste
- Special deck lighting to decrease inter-island insect dispersal
- Food and beverage selection with an eye toward organic and sustainable practices
- Expert naturalist guides, with extensive training on minimum impact practices on land and at sea
- Our Ecuadorian partners have been at the forefront of Galapagos conservation for over 50 years and GeoEx will be joining them in supporting an array of important conservation programs.
