In Africa’s Last Eden, the great photographer Frans Lanting pays tribute to the world’s largest inland delta, the Okavango, “whose very existence in the middle of the Kalahari Desert is nothing short of miraculous. . . . The very notion that a place as wild and untouched as the Okavango even exists may seem like a dream.”

On this intensive Okavango exploration we have ample time to savor the Delta’s subtle and spectacular sceneries, from shady, pacific lagoons and meandering waterways and riverine forests to some of Africa’s finest game-viewing.

Our exploration takes us to a camp at DumaTau to see firsthand the large breeding herds of elephants, then to the heart of the Delta at Little Vumbura Camp, where we’ll have a couple of nights of serene appreciation of the Delta’s quietude and beauty. Now we fly deeper into the Delta and the floodplains of the Kwedi Reserve and Duba Plains. We end with another exquisite camp. Chitabe is known as “the soul of the Delta” and borders the Moremi Reserve, with its extraordinarily large and diverse concentration of animals.

Days 1 & 2: USA to Johannesburg via Europe • Day 3: arrive in Johannesburg, Grace Hotel • Day 4: fly to Maun, and on to DumaTau • Days 5 & 6: Linyanti area, DumaTau • Day 7: fly to the heart of the Okavango Delta, Little Vumbura • Day 8: Okavango Delta, Little Vumbura • Day 9: farther into the Delta, Duba Plains • Days 10 & 11: Okavango Delta, Duba Plains • Day 12: fly to border of Moremi Reserve, Chitabe • Days 13 & 14: Okavango Delta, Chitabe • Days 15 & 16: fly to Johannesburg and back to USA.
