During the “high” seasons of spring and
fall, some of Bhutan’s better known
locales can get slightly—but very relatively—
jammed (the kingdom keeps the numbers
manageable: only about .05 percent in a year
of what France gets in an average day). So
our Bhutan crew has created a summer and
winter trip, when touristic solitude reigns,
which takes us (and our driver and guide)
to a quintet of new luxury hostelries—the
superb Amans in Paro, Punakha, Gangtey,
and Thimphu and, at trip’s end, Paro’s new
Zhiwaling. They’ve added lots of whistles
and bells in the bargain: dinner at the home
of Bhutanese friends, lovely farm and school
visits, prayer flag ceremonies, massages and
spa treatments at the end of the day,
optional cooking classes and traditional
tea ceremonies, meetings with Bhutanese
dignitaries and government officials, and
more. And because summer and winter are
especially quiet times in the already quite
quiet kingdom, we can easily hand-tailor
this trip to meet your interests and tastes.
