Brent Olson was raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota and embarked on a life of travel soon after graduation from Iowa State University. He began by roaming extensively in Europe and the Middle East, working on an archaeological dig in Jerusalem, and eventually discovering his deep personal connection with Bhutan. His Bhutan expertise made him one of GeoEx's first entries to the Condé Nast Traveler Top Travel Specialists list.
Settling in San Francisco, Brent brought his extensive knowledge of Asia and the Himalaya to GeoEx in 1987. Since then, Brent has created and led numerous treks and tours all over Asia and forged close friendships with a wide variety of people. His devotion to the region is mirrored in the unique quality of his itineraries.
Due to Brent’s rare and profound destination savvy, GeoEx has been successful in planning and operating trips throughout Asia for such prestigious organizations as the Asia Society, the Textile Museum of Washington, DC, Dr. Robert Thurman and Tibet House, the California Academy of Sciences, the Society for Asian Art, the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology, the World Wildlife Fund, the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard, the National and Pacific Crest Outward Bound organizations, and the American Museum of Natural History.
For the last 15 years, Brent has been working closely with Tibet House and Dr. Thurman to design and operate their fund-raising trips. Brent has co-led more than 20 trips with Dr. Thurman to destinations such as Bhutan, Mount Kailash, India, Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka, and Mongolia.
